Frequently Asked Questions
Can the rules be changed when children play?
Absolutely! It’s all about having fun—and helping children expand their vocabulary. So, for example, you might allow children to use proper nouns, such as their dog’s name. (Just don’t let Uncle Harry get away with using “Fido” when he plays!)
After each round, do the cards that were drawn get put back for the next round?
Yes. If not, you would soon run out of vowel cards. Remember to reshuffle the vowel and consonant decks to get a fresh set of letters to work with each round.
If a letter card is dealt more than once, does that mean there are fewer letters with which to work?
You still have the same number of letters, but less variety. You might get 2 or even 3 of the same letter. But so does everyone else. This just makes for a more challenging round, giving you a chance to be more creative than your opponent.
Does adding the letter “s” to a word make it a new, and therefore, acceptable word?
Yes it does, assuming it’s a normally accepted word, based on a standard dictionary or grammar rules.
If a word has a word within it, such as cannot, does that word count as 2 words?
No. This would make the game unnecessarily complicated. In the above example, cannot is considered 1 word.
